Here at Holy Cross we strive to make our worship reverent and beautiful as well as warm and welcoming. You will hear beautiful music sung by the congregation and led by an organ and choir. This is a congregation that truly loves to sing. In addition to the music, you will hear Scripture read and a sermon preached on the readings. You will hear many prayers and you will experience the celebration of Holy Eucharist at the altar. All of this will be done with great joy and reverence for what has been given to us in our Lord Jesus Christ in the Word and the Eucharist. This is no closed society. We love to see and welcome new people to our worship service. We don’t care if you’ve been an Episcopalian for your whole life or if you’ve never been inside a church before. Everyone is welcome to praise God with us!
The preaching here at Holy Cross is passionate. On most Sundays you will see and hear me, Fr. Robert, preach a sermon in the midst of the congregation without notes or a manuscript. I will connect the Scripture readings of the day to the lives of the people in the congregation. I believe that the preacher must passionately point to Jesus and help people see and follow Jesus in their daily lives. Preaching must seek to transform both the individuals and the congregation as a whole. Preaching cannot just fill peoples’ heads with intellectual knowledge and information. Preaching is a liturgical event in which the congregation should expect to be transformed by more than just words. I believe that preaching is a Spirit filled event in which the preacher helps the whole congregation be open to the transforming grace of the Holy Spirit. The preacher and the congregation must be open together to the redeeming love of Jesus Christ in the Word preached and proclaimed.
