The Organ

As we look to the beginning of the program year (it will be here before we know it!), I would like to call your attention to a few musical opportunities that will be starting up in September – and for which we need your help and participation!

The Parish Choir will resume rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm.  All are invited to come join us in “singing and making melody” (Eph.5:19) as we prepare music for the 10:30 Sunday service.  Auditions for new members will be scheduled individually for the purpose of part placement only, not for admission to the choir itself.  Basic musicality is recommended; music-reading ability is a plus but is certainly not required.  Our first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, September 5, and we will have a half-day retreat on Saturday, September 8.

I encourage you to consider joining the Handbell Ensemble that I am eager to get off the ground.  The bells have been gathering dust in a back closet for far too long – it is time for us to be good stewards of our musical resources and let these wonderful instruments ring.  Handbells offer a wonderful opportunity to make music together when you just don’t feel that you can sing.  There are sign-up sheets available outside both the Parish office (upstairs) and the music office (downstairs); rehearsals will most likely be held on Sunday afternoons.

A Treble Choir  for children and youth will also start up this fall.  All young people from 3rd grade through high school are encouraged to participate – we need your help in order to get this off the ground!  Pending interest and availability, we will most likely meet on Sunday afternoons.  There are sign-up sheets available outside both the Parish office (upstairs) and the music office (downstairs).

We are hoping to expand the musical palette of the Wednesday afternoon Eucharist/prayer service: instruments are welcome!  I have already begun compiling a list of instrumentalists in the parish, but if you have not yet let me know about that trumpet or recorder or viola sitting in your closet, please do so – and also let me know if you are interested or willing to participate in contributing to the music-making of our worship services, Wednesdays in particular.

Your servant through music,

Mark
