How to Pray the Daily Office — Sep. 10 & 17 @ 11:00 a.m.

McGavern Room

The Book of Common Prayer includes what we call the Daily Office, Morning and Evening Prayer. The offices (services) were originally designed for a parish to read Holy Scripture, and to pray every morning and evening of each day. In subsequent years, the prayer book, which was intended for the pew, has also become a wonderful companion in your pocket. Whether you pray together in a group, or alone as an individual, developing the discipline of daily prayer is one of the most fundamental actions you can take to promote your spiritual health. Do you know how to pray the Daily Office? Fr. Robert Ard and Jonathan Trebilco will explain the rationale, method, and tools for keeping the Daily Office.

Adventures in Art — Sep. 11 & 18 @ 2:00 p.m.

McGavern Room

We are so fortunate to have retired art history professor Sherry Wallace as a member of our parish. She has taken us through a number of fascinating tours of art history, explaining the symbolism, the technique, and the glory of sacred art through the centuries. In these two one hour classes, she brings us to the ancient past to understand how different peoples and cultures have imagined sacred space.

Grief Support Group — Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Nov. 5 @ 10:00 a.m.

Vestry Room

For those who have lost a loved one, and are struggling with that loss and all it involves, we offer a grief support group. Led by Fr. Ian Williams in the Vestry Room (a private room down the hall from the elevator upstairs).

Mind of the Maker — Oct. 7, 14, 21 @ 10:00 a.m.

McGavern Room

We call God Creator, Word, and Spirit. But did you know that the Christian vision of the Blessed Trinity relates directly to all artistic endeavor? That was the brilliant insight of Dorothy Sayers, an Anglican writer of the mid 20th century who composed radio dramas for the BBC, wrote several detective novels (the Lord Peter Wimsey stories), published works on Christian theology, and translated medieval literature from Italian and French. Her work The Mind of the Maker, helps us understand how the doctrine of the triune God inspires our creativity and glorifies the act of making art as image bearers of God. There is no reading ahead or prep work for this class - just show up! Class led by Sommer Trebilco.

Lenten Lesson from Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Feb. 17, 24 / Mar. 3, 10 @ 10:00 a.m.

McGavern Room & Common Room

One of the great lights of the church in the war torn horror of Germany during the Second World War was the Lutheran pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Bonhoeffer's courageous witness through that trial of terror has resonated through the years, and his writings and life history have been an inspiration to countless people around the world. This Lent, we look, not at a history lesson on Bonhoeffer's life, but at the profound lessons he can teach us on what it means to walk faithfully with Christ in this world. Class led by Jonathan Trebilco.

Two clergy members in white robes sing from a hymnal in a church with stained glass windows.
